Mr. Narendra Modi Addresses Newly Elected MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take the oath of
office for the third consecutive term on June 9 at 6 PM. This announcement came
from BJP leader Prahlad Joshi during a meeting of the National Democratic
Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party.
The meeting began around 11:45 AM on Friday in the
Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament) and was attended by newly elected MPs of the
BJP-led NDA. The primary agenda was to elect Narendra Modi as the leader of the
alliance, officially paving the way for his next term as Prime Minister. Senior
alliance leaders, including various chief ministers, were also present. BJP
President J P Nadda is expected to propose a resolution supporting Modi's
leadership, which the attendees are likely to endorse.
Following Modi's election as the leader of NDA MPs, key
figures such as TDP's N Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar, and Shiv
Sena's Eknath Shinde will accompany the Prime Minister to meet President
Droupadi Murmu. They will present her with a list of parliamentarians who
support Modi, according to sources within the alliance.
The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to take place on
Sunday. The NDA currently holds 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha,
comfortably surpassing the majority threshold of 272.
In the lead-up to forming the new government, senior BJP
leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and J P Nadda, have been in
discussions with alliance partners to finalize their roles and representation
in the new administration. The success and stability of the government will
heavily rely on these negotiations and the cooperation of all alliance members.
